DJKM victory for Marc Gerstenkorn in Genk
Swiss victorious in German championship

After a successful start to the season in April, Marc Gerstenkorn stepped up his game again last weekend at the second round of the German Junior Karting Championship and celebrated his first victory. The driver from Wahllandshut now leads the championship at the summer break.

“We started the weekend very cautiously and struggled a bit with the set-up of the kart, a win didn’t seem within reach, so the success is all the nicer now. My mechanic Nico had the right ideas and set me up with a perfect kart for the races,” beamed Marc on the podium that evening. The 1,360-meter track in Belgium once again provided a great backdrop, plus bright sunshine and the best atmosphere in the paddock.

Marc started the race with a fifth place in qualifying and showed a good improvement over the course of the two race days. In the heats on Saturday afternoon, he improved to fourth place and was already in high spirits before the finals: “I’d like it to continue like this. I’ve improved every session and hope for a podium tomorrow.”

In the end, it was even enough for more. Already in the first race, the youngsters delivered tough fights. Marc was in the slipstream of the leader, but did not manage to close the gap completely. As second he had a great starting position for the final race. In this race he took the lead early on and constantly extended his position. After 15 laps he crossed the finish line as the winner and had every reason to be happy.

“Mega, this is my first win in the DJKM. In addition, a super points haul. We’re now going into the summer break and I’m leading the standings. Now it’s time to build on that and go all out again in Wackersdorf. I’m ready for it and will make the most of the time until then,” the twelve-year-old said happily.

Now he has to be patient for three months, from 25-27.08. the next race of the highest German kart racing series will take place in the Pro Kart Raceland Wackersdorf.
