Marc Gerstenkorn wins DJKM half-time championship
After a twelve-week break, the German Kart Championship returned to racing action last weekend. In Wackersdorf, Upper Palatinate, the half-time took place. In the Juniors, Marc Gerstenkorn defended his top position and secured the title of half-time champion.

Since the start of the season in Mülsen, Marc Gerstenkorn has been one of the favorites in the highest German kart championship and naturally wanted to live up to this role in the 1,190-meter Pro Kart Raceland. Some guest drivers provided strong competition and challenged the youngster all the more – a total of 132 drivers went to the start.

In the Juniors, Marc had a bumpy start at the beginning, after qualifying he was only in sixth place. Together with his TB Racing team, however, he continued to work on his performance and rose to third in the intermediate rankings over the course of the two heats. “We didn’t have a perfect start to the day. But in the further course we found the necessary speed. Rain is now forecast for tomorrow, which will change the situation again,” summarized the 13-year-old Swiss.

On a wet track, Marc then had a perfect start in the first final and led the race until shortly before the end. “My chaser was breathing down my neck the whole time, unfortunately he found a gap at the end. Since he was a guest rider, I didn’t counterattack anymore, the full points were more important to me in terms of the championship,” Marc summed up.

The second round again took place on a wet track. This time, however, he lost some ground and finished fourth in the end. Nevertheless, the man from Landshut collected important points for the title fight and was pleased with the half-time title in the evening. However, he cannot rest on his laurels, as his direct rival is only two points behind. “These will still be two exciting races of the season. The next race is in Kerpen, on the track I have already won several times and would like to repeat that,” concluded the youngster.

In four weeks’ time, from September 22-24, the next races of the German Kart Championship will take place at the tradition-steeped circuit in North Rhine-Westphalia.
