Marc Gerstenkorn finishes debut season in the trophy ranks.
The ADAC Kart Masters season came to an end last weekend in Mülsen, Saxony. For Marc Gerstenkorn it was a matter of attacking once again to finish his debut season in the top five of the OK Juniors. He reached the finish line and was also one of the best rookies.
After races in Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony-Anhalt, Marc Gerstenkorn now traveled to Saxony for the finale of the ADAC Kart Masters. The 1,315-meter-long Arena E in Mülsen was the venue for the final classification races of the year. A total of 129 drivers took to the starting grid. While warm weather dominated the races last time, this time heavy rain in parts provided for variety – Marc proved his driving talent in the process.
The driver from Landshut caused a first surprise in qualifying, as second he had a place in the first row of the grid and at the same time drove his best result of the season. In the heats he didn’t quite manage to defend his position and was sixth in the intermediate standings on Saturday evening. “I had some tough duels and got on the grass in the process, which directly cost places,” Marc explained.
In the first final on Sunday, everything then went according to plan for the twelve-year-old. He was in the slipstream of the leaders on a wet track and finished a strong third after the chequered flag fell. Unfortunately, this was followed in race two by a small ride-out and only tenth place. Nevertheless, he finished the final race in an excellent fifth place in the day’s standings and occupied the same position in the overall standings.
This made him one of the best rookies and gave him every reason to be happy: “I’ve learned a lot this year and I’m getting better and better at putting the experience into practice. The cooperation with my mechanic Dominik and the TB Racing Team helps me a lot. I’d like it to go on like this.” Already in two weeks he will get the next chance, in Wackersdorf the final of the German Junior Kart Championship will take place.
